GVO ROUND II – TOKYO EDITION [Group C “Strike” Results/Video]: Leroy Or Die.

It was quite the eventful day on the first day of play at GVO’s Round II: Tokyo Edition. There were several nail-biting match-ups, more than a few upsets and a dethroned champ. Sunday quickly turned into Sonned Day. Here’s the third piece of group action from GodHatesGeeks’ second ever fighting game tournament, including videos, results and reactions… Keep it locked at GHG for more coverage throughout the week.

GROUP C – STRIKE

Christian Orozco, Artez Bailey, Richard Pearson.

Following the onslaught that was late game Group B, Group C a.k.a. the “3rd Strike” was no different. There was a reason the defending champ was grouped with GVO first-timer Christian Orozco, and the master otaku proved too much, even for a video game fighter the prowess of Artez Bailey.

The Defiant Bear was dethroned and it didn’t take long! Right from the Kamen Rider: Climax Scramble warm up, Christian was consistent through every game session–only struggling in King of Fighters ’98 against the inaugural GVO champ.

O.G. Ringside Apostles — Moody & Zom — returned for GVO commentary.

The real story in this group, however, was the return of a legend. Yes, the O.G. Ringside Apostle and longtime retro gamer Richard “Zom” Pearson hopped into arguably the toughest of the four groups in a last minute, surprise replacement.

While Zom had a tough time against Art and Chris, as expected, he was often only one, two or three attacks short of losing most matches. He put up a hell of a fight despite the ring-rust and his 4-point output in no way reflective of his fighting spirit.
