The sixth chapter of the nine issue series, Heroes In Crisis, is out now.
Written by Tom King with art by Clay Mann and Mitch Gerads, the issue follows Gnaak, The Flash (Wally West), and Harley Quinn as the each explore how they fit in with the world they currently live in.
Harley struggles with her relationship with Poison Ivy, Wally is lonely and misses his pre-New 52 life with his family, and Gnaak misses the his simple life in the past as a cave man. Although a brief departure from the deaths at Sanctuary, the story feels middling. Since focus is divided between the three, it actually hurts the exploration of their trauma. 2.75/5 Bibles.

This issue has the theme of sons carrying the weight of their fathers’ legacy. Robert Venditti (X-O Manowar) deftly moves the narrative forward for Black Condor, as we see, through flashbacks, the hardships that his father endured. We also see the transition of power to Hitler’s son and how he fares in command. The juxtaposition worked perfectly, with only one hiccup: a conversation between Condor and Phantom Lady, which boiled down to some pretty unsavory white guilt, completely overshadowed Marcus’ trauma and took me out of the scene.
Eddie Barrows, Eber Ferreira and Adriano Lucas are a trifecta of awesomeness. The moody and claustrophobic nature of some of the panel layouts, the shadows and the color palette were enough to let you know this is dealing with some heavy themes, but is kinetic and colorful enough to let you know what brings people to the dance, superheroes kicking ass and taking names. 3.5/5 Bibles.
