While it’s not controversial to say that people either love or hate Zack Snyder (I happen to be in the love camp), its ‘not controversial to say that WB’s Justice League by Joss Whedon was a colossal swing and miss. I went back and watched it on HBO Max and it has good bits.
But, overall, the o.g. 2017 JL was not a good movie and that notion should not all fall on Joss Whedon (who has come under fire lately by Ray Fischer for on-set obuse). Whedon zigged when he should have zagged and everything — such as the mix of dark and lighter tones — that worked on The Avengers flopped in Justice League.
The Snyder Cut panel was as good as you could have hoped for. The League (minus Jason Mamoa, but plus Patty Jenkins) all asked Snyder fan questions and he answered them all with glee. The director did say that Ray Fisher’s Cyborg will be fleshed-out much more in this version and he will be the glue that holds this team together. I think what people forget, for everyone who hated Man of Steel and Batman v. Superman, was that Wonder Woman and Aquaman were based off of Snyder’s vision and not Whedon and Snyder Executive Produced both of those films.
It’s clear that the dude genuinely loves his job and loves that he gets to tell his vision. Finally! Only took 5 years.. (granted, it took Richard Donner 20+ for his Superman II cut to be released. Do note that Snyder claims that Justice League: The Snyder Cut will be a 4-part series of 1 hour each, and that they are working on releasing the 4-hour magnum opus afterwards.

NOW! AGAIN! THE TRAILER!!!! The tone is more serious. We do see Darkseid (who looks just absolutely bad-ass), Desaad (who looks creepy AF), Steppenwolf (in his original BvS design), Superman in the Black Suit, a destroyed Justice League Hall of Justice in the nightmare scene, Kiersey Klemon’s Iris West, the Flash and Cyborg having more story, and what it seemingly far more heroics than the original Whedon cut.
I mean… just give it to me now! If this lives up to all the hype, could we see Snyder’s original trilogy finally play out? Alas, we will just have to wait until 2021 to see Snyder’s final vision.
Panel = 3.5/5
Trailer = 5/5
