David Nakayama’s Color Block Variant Covers Continue With Wolverine, Captain Marvel and More

Press Release: David Nakayama’s Color Block Variant Covers Continue in April With Bold White Monochrome Covers

The next wave of David Nakayama’s striking COLOR BLOCK VARIANT COVERS arrives this April, bringing bold WHITE monochrome designs to comic shop shelves. Following last month’s RED-themed debut, the program continues with new covers spotlighting fan-favorite icons including Captain Marvel, Mystique, Wolverine, and more. One of the industry’s most in-demand cover artists, Nakayama has illustrated heroes and villains from nearly every corner of the Marvel Comics universe. With the Color Block series, he reduces each composition to a single dominant hue—matching the character and background—to create clean, graphic imagery designed to stand out on shelves. The initiative unfolds across three waves: February’s RED covers, April’s WHITE covers, and June’s BLUE covers, forming a patriotic red-white-and-blue trilogy. Each Color Block Variant Cover will also be available as a virgin variant, allowing collectors to fully appreciate Nakayama’s bold layouts without trade dress. “When this collection was first announced, I was excited to explore a bold, strategically limited palette and take on characters I’ve never drawn this way before—or at all in some cases,” Nakayama shared. “I hope readers have as much fun with them as I did creating them.”
