Big news for Batman fans was announced in the last few days in the world of animation and comic books. One of the best Batman stories ever told, Gotham by Gaslight, is being adapted as an animated direct-to-DVD film while Sean Murphy’s much-anticipated Batman comic series was unveiled.
Gotham by Gaslight, which is known for ushering in the Elseworlds line of comic books, is going to be the next DC Universe animated film. The sneak peek for it will be a special feature on the Batman and Harley Quinn DVD and Blu-Ray. In the Gaslight comic comic book, a Victorian-era Batman is searching for the elusive jack the Ripper. A young Keith read this book until his copy was dog-eared and loved to pieces. A release date and creative team behind the movie has not been released.
The great writer/artist Sean Murphy, who has been teasing his Batman miniseries for some time, has finally revealed the title of and some background on his Bat-magnum opus.
The first issue will be released on October 4 and be called Batman: White Knight. The series, whose length Murphy hasn’t yet decided upon, will be an Elseworlds-type tale featuring a Joker who has been rehabilitated. Now a politician and going by the name of Jack (shades of Batman ’89?), the character can now go after Batman and his vigilantism in a legal manner. And for those fans of Harley, expect her classic look to take center stage once again.
