BATMAN #29 – Another great issue from DC’s Dynamic Duo. Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo hit their stride with the Dark Knight pretty much on issue #1, so it’s no secret that Batman is just awesome. After last month’s brief hiatus and brief look to the future, we’re back at Zero Year and back watching the Riddler take control of the city — and watching Batman and Gordon seemingly fail at every step. Great character moments, great beats, and great development makes this yet another great issue. Not only that, but the quick and to the point flashes of the origin of Bruce Wayne as a kid make it beautiful. 4.25/5.
MAGNUS: ROBOT FIGHTER #1 – I was pleasantly surprised by this comic: pretty much a big budget action movie, wrapped around a pretty normal idea of a fish out of water. Take the guy who has no idea what’s going on and throw him in a world that he has no idea how to get out of. A human in a world of robots. Fred Van Lente scripts it up exactly like a movie, something you’d see Arnold act in during the 80s and see him chew all kinds of scenery. It’s big fun, big bombastic action, and big on intrigue. Excited to read more. 4/5.
