Greetings, fellow geeks! We’ve got a triple-threat review this time out to round us into the latter half of the week, with three of our writers going up against the latest season of Netflix/Marvel’s latest season of Daredevil. Sure, you’re heard from some of the other sites, but let’s see what our Geek Ministry thinks of the latest season of the Man Without Fear…
Coming into season 3 of Netflix’s Daredevil I had high hopes and was not disappointed, to say the very least. The series recap really hit all the marks on what to remember from Seasons One, and Two. Even The Defenders crossover series got in on the recap, just to round everything out completely. So, now we know it takes place right after those events. For those that read the old Frank Miller run on Daredevil oh-so-long-ago, you are in for a treat–a masterful treat.
This isn’t for the non-comic fan either, since — while their names might not be in the forefront — this season focuses on Daredevil’s top villains. For one, they nailed Bullseye. Sure, they took liberties on his backstory, and they don’t necessarily call him by his codename, but overall, this is spot-on; from his pinpoint accuracy, to his ability to ricochet shots like a Pro Billiard player is outstanding (Hal! – John Travolta, Broken Arrow). Plus, him throwing shards of glass is a definite nod to his comic counterpart. Plus, he threw a gold bowl to the back of Kingpin’s head (might I add it hit the mark…hah!).
Speaking of Kingpin, as played by Vincent D’Onofrio: Yo, no lie….his is probably the best portrayal of the villain. I completely lost my geek cool and geeked out when we first see him in classic Kingpin attire while doing a Daredevil thought bubble. He completely nailed it. And when Vanessa showed back up and wanted to be part of his life.. I was, like, Season Four she does what her comic counterpart did: take over Fisk’s role? And really … the last two episodes are lifted straight from the comic. It’s like the writer went “Fuck it. Here guys, this is your script,” and threw down on the actor’s table the four issue Born Again arc. “This is is the script…have at it.”

Damn geeks, did we get spoiled this year or what? We got Jessica Jones Season 2, Luke Cage Season 2, Iron Fist Season 2 and just this past weekend, we got Daredevil Season 3 and it is arguably the best season that Marvel has put out. (We’re just gonna gloss over the fact that two of those shows were cancelled). Season 3 picks up right after the events of The Defenders and just as everyone guessed, we got an adaptation of Frank Miller‘s Born Again and my God! It was a beautiful rendition. Because let us be clear here: if you are going to do an adaptation of, arguably, the most famous Daredevil storyline, you better make sure that you do it right, and the Daredevil cast and crew absolutely nails it.
From spot-on acting, to fantastic writing, Season 3 of Daredevil is the strongest of the Netflix shows, and possibly the strongest of the Marvel shows in general. Star Charlie Cox and crew bring their ‘A’ game, and newcomers Wilson Bethel and Joanne Whalley are such nuanced additions. Whalley is an amazing addition as Mother Maggie, and Bethel Bullseye (even though he isn’t called that by name.. yet). The season has a ton of Easter eggs, and fan service so have fun watching out for every single one! (Hint: the final Bullseye scene is an Easter egg towards everyone’s favorite Canadian mutant) 4.75/5 Bibles.

What’s up folks?! The bouncer is back with another quick review. This time it’ll be of the latest season of Netflix’s Daredevil. In the aftermath of what happened in the Defenders mini series, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) is back on the streets of New York, and suffering from a bit of a conflict of faith. At the same time his nemesis Wilson Fisk AKA The Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio) is making his own return to the streets of New York for an inevitable confrontation.Based on the classoc Frank Miller storyline Born Again, I thoroughly enjoyed this season of Daredevil. I loved the gritty nature of this series, and I think is by far, hands down, the best of the Marvel Netflix shows. While we may have seen some of the other Marvel fare cancelled by Netflix, season 3 of Daredevil shows that when done right, these properties have great potential, and can be great sources of action, character, and story.
My favorite scene of the season is a scene in which Matt Murdock goes to the prison and goes through several obstacles in one shot that seems to last at least 10 to 15 minutes. Overall great storytelling and very much a milestone for these shows. 5/5 Belser Bibles.
