[E3 News]: A “Death Stranding” to Fans of Kojima.

Update [6/7]: Taking to Twitter earlier today, Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima confirmed he will not be bringing his next masterpiece to next week’s E3 showcase…

Even so, the Metal Gear Solid game director will be on hand for Geoff Keighley’s YouTube Live Show — so expect more details to spill out about the game in addition to the MGS movie. The slogan “Bridges”, also seen in the teaser above, was the same term found on the badge of Guillermo del Toro‘s character in a previous DS trailer. Hmmm.

DEATH STRANDING (Kojima/Sony Interactive – PS4 – TBA) – As a horror game junkie and Metal Gear Solid fan, Death Stranding intrigued me right off the bat. Since it was announced at E3 last year, two trailers have been released and there’s been a smattering of information here and there, but we still know little to nothing is known about the game itself — the brainchild of Hideo Kojima. What we do know is that it features two popular actors — Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead) and Mads Mikkelsen (Rogue One, Hannibal) — and is an open world game run powered by the Decima Engine. Oh, and it’s not technically a horror game.

What we don’t know? Basically everything else: exactly what type of game it is, when it’s going to be released, why everyone is connected to umbilical cords. And with little chance of new information appearing at E3 this year, those questions (and more) will probably remain unanswered. For those of us still mourning the Silent Hill-that-never-was, Death Stranding looks like it could fill that hole. But until there’s some actual gameplay to check out, all we have to go on are the trailers — the “WTF is going on”, visually-stunning trailers. (Let’s talk about that super creepy baby doll, guys. What’s with that?) With an estimated 2-years until release, we will have to wait to dive into Kojima’s newest creation.

The PlayStation E3 Media Showcase is set for 6 p.m. PT on Monday, June 12. You can catch all the action on Twich and the PlayStation Network.
