DEVIL MAY CRY 5 (Capcom – X1, PS4, PC – TBA) – From the historic beginning of a planned Resident Evil birthed Devil May Cry. Many dove into DMC with the mysterious Dante, a badass demonslayer hellbent on banishing minions to further pursue the demon emperor, Mundus, who killed his mother and brother. Dante was willing to pay with his life in return. The combat system of DMC O.G. was repetitive, stylish, a bit of a grind. But surely not bad for a combination building platform that helps you work on your gaming performance. The Demon/devil trigger was fantastic!
Here are how the following chapters have held up before we get to witness the inevitable DMC5 this coming week:
- Devil May Cry 2 saw Dante teaming up with Lucia, stepping into a hell portal like a G — set to stop yet another demon called forth by Arius named Argosax. This time around the combat felt flat, the Desperation trigger felt like a dis, and.. Dante needed a panic button? Really? Playing as Lucia had a nice, new feel for the game with the scoring/combo system feeling very Deadpool-ish with the comical positive reinforcement wordings.
- Prequel Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening saw Dante still rocking a shop as a demon hunter for hire (vibes of Buffy the Slayer and Supernatural), and an inquirer named Arkham. The combat in this one went full circle and back to basics with a rejuvenated take on the nuts and bolts that made Dante a double-pistol fisted badass.
- Devil May Cry 4 sees new character, Nero, deliver a devil-bringer weaponized arm. He teams up with Dante –with players having the ability to use both characters– to once again kick, beat, bash, and banish demons trying to take over the moral world.
- DMC: Devil May Cry was a well-received spin-off that focused on the chronicles of Vergil, with far more of family dynamic between brothers. It has no tie-in to the primary Devil May Cry narrative (side bonus: the soundtrack was composed by one of Bishop Zom’s favorite bands, Combichrist.)
Now that you’ve finished completing “Zom’s DMC History Tour”, you might ask: How do we even know there is a Devil May Cry 5? Well, the recently registered DMC5 domain thst was created has now moved to Capcom’s own servers. And, you’ll be psyched to know that Dante is back at the helm as lead character and Nero, Vergil and, more than likely, Lucia will be present for the more in-depth layout of the personal life and story behind Dante; the gameplay mechanics are revamped as well, molded to the game controls of the first Devil May Cry.
Dante can also use more of the environment around him to beat down on the enemies with smooth ease, much in thanks to the elevated camera work that should help with seamless combat. I’m more excited to see if Lady or Ebony & Ivory get serious upgrades that could make Brandon Heat from the Gun Grave anime series blush. Or maybe a Trigun cameo? Can we say look-a-like, damn near!? As for the rest, we’ll have to see what Capcom has in store as we get closer to the show.
