First of all, no you haven’t, Sean; try reading a book every now and then! But before that, let’s talk about a little hidden gem on Amazon Prime: Job Guys. It’s essentially twelve quibi-sized episodes (that run about 10-12 minutes tops) about a pair of buddies who run a “Muscle of Hire” business out of their apartment. Hitmen, if you will…
Dominick (Kevin Caliber) is the good-looking half of the duo with his slightly unhinged maniacal partner Herman (Brandon Fisher) who quickly come to the realization that their organization skills are lacking, so they take on a receptionist after a bungled assignment. Taking on all jobs, from repo men (be jealous, Barry Darsow) to bodyguards for pop stars to assassinations. They’ll even clean out your garage–or not!
Job Guys is a fast-paced action comedy story with slapstick, gun fights, fist fights, and fire. The casting is solid, with an admirable script and astute direction. JG’s funny where it’s suppose to be, even a bit hammy in spots yet definitely all in good fun. Even though the episodes are short, the main storyline through the entire season progresses with each story. Callbacks, flashbacks and inner dialogue help push the tale forward.
Is Job Guys an A++ multi-million-dollar “it’s not TV, it’s HBO” level production? No, but don’t let that stop you from checking it out. This is clearly a labor of love in both production and execution. What it may lack in budget it makes up for with heart, humor and dedication. Co-Creators Caliber, Director Brook Hubbs (all 12 episodss) and Writer (and cast member) Dave Beaudrie have successfully birthed a series for the entire world to enjoy.
That is no small task, regardless of budget size. Now here’s to the ever elusive second season pick up. 3/5 Bibles.
