Pimpin’ From The Pulpit w/ The Preacher [Morning Communion]: ‘Hans’ on, Spider-Mon!!

What-up my glorious God Hates Geeks ever beloved-Elite!

Going to throwdown with the news in a slightly different form and function from this point onward.

Now, instead of posting about coming news in movies/tv/comics/etc. exclusively on the GHG Facebook page, I’m going to start bringing the same 411 here to the GHG site-proper in bullet point design, and if possible, twice a day with a daytime newsbite edition and a nighttime newsbite edition should more news arrive later in the day.

That way, we cut down on the clutter upon the GHG Facebook page by having this hub (that I’ll link to the GHG FB page when ready, AND also be more able to get down to our own daily personal business in life outside of the internet.

Rest assured, I, your friendly neighborhood cyber-clergy will try to keep you all up to date on all the latest killer-cool coming about.  So, without any further ado-wacka-doo, let’s get to the meat of our sermon!

In movie/tv news…

*The Amazing Spider-Man 2 producer, Matt Tolmach seemed intentionally vague when talking about the roster of villains in Sony/Columbia Pictures’ Sinister Six spin-off, “Nothing is sacred. I mean it’s going to be the best Six that you can imagine, but it’s going to make sense in the world that we’re building.”

Also worthy of a mention, Tolmach and co-producer Avi Arad both seemed to be especially dodgy and even somewhat teasing when asked if the Spidey super-villain Carnage would be in the upcoming Venom spin-off, with Arad saying simply, “What a great idea.” Guess we’ll just have to wait and see, eh?!? Until then, our collective Spider-senses will just have to remain in the off-position until any official word is given.

*As expected, composer Hans Zimmer, who scored the pulse-pounding powerful score for Man Of Steel, the Christopher Nolan Batman/Dark Knight Trilogy, and the acclaimed feature film 12 Years A Slave has in CONFIRMED that he will return to the fold of director Zack Snyder’s Batman Vs. Superman (tentative title). The musical maestro has stated that once he’s completed scoring Nolan’s next film, Interstellar, he’ll (Zimmer) then go off and hang a bit onset of filming of B Vs. S to get some ideas going in his masterful mind. Just one suggestion for Mr. Zimmer…….BAT-MITE!!!

*Over the past several months it’s seemed that Warner Bros./DC Entertainment has a tv takeover in the works, what with all the various tv series they have in the offing utilizing the DC Comics pantheon of intellectual properties!

Thus far, in the aftermath of the hit CW series Arrow (now in it’s 2nd successful season) there’s a Flash tv pilot now in-production and said to air this fall on the CW, as well as Gotham on FOX, Preacher (based upon the DC/Vertigo comic book series by writer Garth Ennis and artist Steve Dillon) over at AMC, and various other tv projects in various stages of development.

NOW, we can add ANOTHER to the DC Comics tv takeover pile.

Seems that WGN America is developing an original scripted series based off of DC Comics/Vertigo’s acclaimed 2007-2012 series Scalped, written by Jason Aaron and illustrated by R.M. Guera.

For anyone not in the know as to the story of Scalped, the tale centers around a fictional Prairie Rose Oglala Lakota Indian Reservation in South Dakota that is trying to hold onto their cultural identity while their home is plagued with poverty, all manner of crime, and politics, with a predominantly non-Caucasian cast of characters. Writer Doug Jung (Banshee) is said to be onboard to pen the script and executive produce.

Personally, none of these tv shows spinning out of the DCU will matter UNLESS they tie it all into an AMBUSH BUG tv series, but that’s just me!

In comic book news…

*Word has hit that DC Comics is CANCELLING their Digital-First anthology comic book series, The Adventures Of Superman (which wraps it’s run this week) and will be replace on May 19th with the Digital-First release of Infinite Crisis #1, based upon the current video game of the same name.

If you’re a fan of the Infinite Crisis video game and interested in a comic version, then this is good news for you. Tough news for those of you out there that followed the adventures of this anthology following the exploits of a more CLASSIC/non-New 52 iteration of the Metropolis Marvel, as told by various creative teams.

YOU’LL BELIEVE A DIGITAL-FIRST CAN GET THE AX!!!

*Other DC news has come about stating that former Robin and Nightwing, Dick Grayson will get a new comic series on July 2nd with the aptly titled Grayson, where the eldest protege’ of the Dark Knight joins-up with the international spy organization known as Spyral (introduced in writer Grant Morrison’s Batman Inc.).

The catch? He must let the world and a lot of important people in his life believe him to be dead, in order to do his covert duty.

The now-former Nightwing will also get a new look designed by artist Mikel Janin (Justice League Dark) and the title will be written by Tim Seeley and former CIA counterterrorism operations officer, Tim King.

COULD make the obvious HAIL HYDRA joke but that’s another publisher altogether. That said, HAIL H.I.V.E.!!!

*A teaser image out of DC Comics’ Channel 52 back-up segment for their line of monthlies has the fan-nation all abuzz. This image below seems to spin out of their Future’s End weekly series and features some of the DC characters from various eras like what looks to be the Tim Drake Robin from the 90s, Booster Gold, Batman and Batman Beyond, what look to be a team centering around Mr. Terrific, someone that looks to be Lois Lane, a very different looking Firestorm, a slew of characters from Jim Lee’s Wildstorm line, and others, all running around upon what seems to be a sort of Cadmus constructed staircase inspired by Dutch artist M.C. Escher’s 1953 piece of art entitled Relativity. Another element of this image that should be noted, notice the RED SKY in the background! In the DC Comics of the past, RED SKIES usually seemed to mean a CRISIS, and it’s also worth noting that next year DC’s 80s crossover, Crisis On Infinite Earths turns 30!

From the looks of this DC Comics/Future's End teaser image, $#!t's about to get UNREAL!!!

Well, that’s all for today. Until next time, take it easy and remember to tip the cyber-clergy holding the collection plate, on the way out of the church!
