Pimpin’ From The Pulpit w/ The Preacher Man! [Evening Mass]: Feelin’ Superior.

Good evening all of you killer-cool GHGers! Time for our 2nd daily dose of geek-news from around the ‘net. Tonight we have a few bits of movie news for you, so instead of doing too much more in the way of the jibber-jabber, let’s get down to ROCKIN’!

*Word going around says that 20th Century Fox has picked-up comic writer Mark Millar and artist Leinil Francis Yu’s comic book limited series Superior (published by Marvel Comics under their creator owned Icon imprint) to adapt to the big-screen.

Superior tells the story of a popular 12 year old boy whose social life wanes after he’s stricken with multiple sclerosis. Seemingly by chance, a monkey-like alien life form grants the boy his wish to become a Superman-like superhero called Superior.

The boy begins to enjoy his life as a powerful hero, but then learns the alien is actually a demon from hell. With that, the boy faces the choice to remain the powerful Superior, thus selling his soul, or to give-up the power and return to his former multiple sclerosis-stricken form.

X-Men: First Class and Kick-Ass director, Matthew Vaughn is attached to produce the film.

On another note, footage of the film The Secret Service (based upon another Millar-written comic book series) was screened at the recent Cinema-Con and it’s said the reactions were very positive. Superior, Kick-Ass and it’s sequel Kick-Ass 2, and The Secret Service, respectively, are only 4 of quite a number of films in development based upon comic books created by Millar (also, the James McAvoy/Angelina Jolie action film Wanted). You’d think Millar sold HIS soul to get all this big-screen play, or something, wouldn’t you?

*Recently it was stated by movie producer Lauren Shuler Donner that she was interested in getting Channing Tatum to possibly don the trench coat and power-up some playing cards to portray the ragin’ mutant Cajun known as Gambit for 20th Century Fox. After that, Tatum himself expressed his interest in taking on the role on the big-screen.

Reportedly, Tatum had this to say on the idea, “I met with Lauren Shuler Donner and I would love it. Gambit is really the only X-Man I’ve ever loved. I mean I’ve loved them all, they’re all great, but I guess from being down south – my dad’s from Louisiana, I’m from Mississippi, Alabama, Florida – I don’t know. I just related to him. He’s just kind of suave… He’s the most un X-Men X-Man that’s ever been in X-Men. Other than maybe Wolverine, who’s like the anti-hero. He’s a thief. He’s not even a hero. He’s kind of walking the line of grey…He loves women and drinking and smoking and stuff so he’s just a cool guy who happens to have a moral center….I hope it [comes together]. You never know it’s a weird industry. If the stars align, I would die to play it. I’m already working on the accent. It’s crappy at the moment.”

Is Tatum the man you could see playing the ragin' Cajun, mon cher?

*Writer/director of the Amateur Night segment of the 2012 anthology horror film V/H/S, David Bruckner, has been slated to direct the Friday The 13th reboot from Paramount Pictures and Platinum Dunes. No details on this new version of the film series have been given at this time, but Paramount has already chosen the movie’s release date, Friday March 13th, 2015.

No matter what the film reboot brings to the fore, it’s most likely safe to say that Jason Voorhees will NOT BE A HAPPY CAMPER!

NEVER...I repeat...NEVER ASK JASON TO GIVE YOU A HAND WITH ANYTHING WHILE CAMPING!!!
