PREACHER (Friday – Hall H) – This year’s Preacher presentation had a lot to live up to following the greatness of it’s SDCC 2016 debut. Hell, it was our highest rated panel grade at the convention. And bloody hell, this one was nearly just as good. Ever so righteously opening up with American gospel hymn “When the Saints Go Marching In” — to which I heard its brass blaring while sitting on the rim of a haunted John stall in Hall H, ever so righteously (since you’re currently reading about a show with a character named Arseface) — the Chris Hardwick-led panel was an hour full of zingers and infectious chuckles from series Co-Showrunner Seth Rogen. On the show starting off for this current Season 2, Rogen acknowledged that they “literally killed everyone. [Those were] some awkward phone calls.”

Maybe may favorite part of the presentation in addition to the sense of humor of Rogen and Joseph Gilgun (Cassidy) — who especially tore the fuckin’ house down, saying his would-be eternal life would lead to the legalization of cannabis in the UK — was getting to know a side of Jesse Custer we haven’t seen, courtesy of some wonderful insight from Dominic Cooper. “The darker side of him makes sense to me,” a side we’ll see the more he feels Ruth Negga‘s Tulip is being threatened. In Season 2, fans will also learn more about Tulip’s “true nature and innate intellegence”.
After Gilgun went on about his path to redemption, Rogen chimed in that things will become “a little more vampire-y” later in the season. “At the end of the day [Cassidy’s] a vampire. So you’ve got to deal with that.” Both Graham McTavish and Ian Colletti shed insight into both of their characters’ respective redemption trails, with the Saint of Killers actor speaking on the “strange dichotomy” about his murderous cowboy god’s love for his family and the Arseface himself touching on the forced self-evalution served via Hitler. If only, going by a bizarre Q&A inquiry from the panel, Rogen and pal James Franco could play the source material’s sexual investigators, right? 4.25/5 Bibles.
