Two days after the shocking exit of Phil Lord and Chris Miller as directors of the untitled Han Solo film, it has been announced that Ron Howard is now taking over the reins. Lord and Miller had already been filming for the past four-and-a-half months. Creative differences had apparently come to a head between the deposed filmmakers and screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan, with Kasdan clearly coming out on top. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Howard will now have to “soothe a rattled set.” Howard will begin filming on July 10. It’s a bit surprising that Howard hasn’t been attached to any Star Wars films up until now, what with his penchant for making crowd-pleasing entertainment.
The Han Solo film will be released on May 25, 2018. Alden Ehrenreich is playing the lead while Donald Glover is playing Lando Calrissian.
