TITANFALL BETA [1st Communion]: Live and Let Die!

That being said, what’s on offer in the beta allows for a nice mix of close-quarters pilot action, and enough areas to maneuver your war machine like it’s nobody’s business. What’s especially nice is how fluid everything feels. Wall-running comes natural, and the guns have satisfying results— I never felt as though any weapon wasn’t having sufficient impact on the enemy. That also could be because I just wrecked a match at 24 pilot kills and 5 Titan kills, hehehe… Seriously though, I feel a mix of Call of Duty and Borderlands in the control scheme, and I’m definitely digging it. How did you like the transitioning from pilot to Titan? I thought it was an interesting choice to allow aerial entry; if you’ve got a nice, high vantage point, you have an easy drop down for some major ground damage.

Moody: Oh, Respawn cares! But if I told you how much, then I’d have to…kick you…even if your one game stats equate to just about all five of my days with the game. Hey — I’m a longtime Halo dude, so give me a break. Where’s my sword?

The transitions in the game were smoother than Melo’s nine 3-pointers in the All-Star Game this weekend; even more immersive was having the ability to Skywall from skyscraper to hightower to the back neck of one of these Titan tanks. There are some spectacular deaths in the game, many of which were mine. Finally, a game I can mega-suck at and still fucking enjoy. When I first tried to get the hang of it, I was vastly superior as a Titan. That was against lower level players. Then, as everyone reached the capped-out level of the beta at 14, I was finding far more success as a mere Pilot. Now, with a mixture of vets/clans/devs and noobs, the not-so-trusty-indeed-rusty Monsignor has found a mixture of success (and failure) on both fronts.

Dodger Stadium never looked so good.

I think that’s what will ultimately make this game enjoyable: finding your own niche. I found myself in Hardpoint Domination getting to the dropship before anyone else — and maybe that’s because everyone else is playing Attrition. Even still, I’m definitely surprised the Titans aren’t as powerful as they could be. You can say goodbye to them faster than the hot girl who accidentally added you on Facebook.

Christine: That’s a funny point, Monsignor— I personally find WAY more success at any level as a pilot. I’ve been strictly Assassin and it hasn’t steered me wrong. Having a mini-map with constant blips is crucial to my strategy (get your streak high on grunts, then take out pilots since they lack support, rinse/repeat for big points). If the beta alone is worth shoveling hours into, I can only imagine the plethora of content that will be available shortly, and how many nights there are ahead that lack sleep and contain an abundance of mechtacular carnage. March 11th needs to march its ass a little faster; I’m dying to start my career in this game.
