Zach McGowan [Special News]: Holy Possibilities, Batman!

Happy Sunday, geeks. We’ve got a bit of an inside cause here at GodHatesGeeks that we’d like to share with all of you out there in the geekosphere. We’re normally not one to do this, but this is just too good not to campaign. It comes from a compatriot site that WB/DC is looking to recast Bruce Wayne/Batman in Matt Reeves‘ upcoming, work-in-progress The Batman. Now, this isn’t just any old fan speculation either: producers at DC/WB are actively throwing one name into the ring, and, well, since our own Lisa “the Goddam” Wu herself can call this certain name one of her friends, we’re taking this rumor a bit more seriously than usual.

Of the many names being thrown around, one of them  star of Black Sails, Shameless, and The 100, Zach McGowan. Apart from a few other actors, Zach has apparently made his name to one of the top contenders, and we here at GodHatesGeeks, on behalf of our sister writer, are certainly rooting for him to make the cut and show the world what he’s got to deliver as everyone’s favorite flying-mammal-inspired superhero.

Given the scope of the casting — and given what Reeves has stated in most recent interviews — Mr. McGowan would be a great choice for a younger, more intense iteration of the Dark Knight. Aiming for a younger, more driven, noir-toned take on Batman would be a great fit for the intense and versatile actor, who has made his foray in the past in genre, and blockbuster, films. Having appeared in the rival company’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., as well as Terminator: Salvation, McGowan not only has the skills to navigate big-budget productions, but is also comfortable in comic-book settings.

Given Reeves’ insistence on a more character-driven film, with a smaller and narrower focus compared to what WB/DC has been presenting to audiences, and with that we can look forward to an intense actor to fill in the cape and cowl and, if this comes to pass, you read it here first, at GodHatesGeeks!
