And they said this wasn’t a “geek” film.

SHOWS:

1. Bojack Horseman (Season 3) – In three short seasons, BH has explored depression, anxiety, and self-loathing presented as this hilarious, genuine, emotional, and sometimes heartbreaking sitcom that satisfies from an entertaining perspective, as well as a down to earth-yet-complex outlook that allows its storyline and characters to feel way more profound than they should. Seriously, the most honest animated series to come along in a long, long time. – 5/5
2. Daredevil (Season 2) – 4.75/5
3. Stranger Things (Season 1) – 4.25/5

Honorable mention: Luke Cage (Season 1).

FLICKS:

1. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story – Ever since the new slate of Star Wars movies went public I paid close attention to Rogue One, a story revolving around ordinary men and women who rose up to do the extraordinary. It made me think, “Can we really have a grounded Star Wars film full of grit with no Jedis or lightsabers?” The answer is a resounding hell yes! – 5/5 Bibles
2. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice4/5 Bibles
3. 10 Cloverfield Lane3/5 Bibles

Honorable mention: Captain America: Civil War, Suicide Squad, Doctor Strange, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

THE GEEEEK AWARDS [Best TV/Film of 2016]: Cape Fear.
No ‘shame!’ in enjoying GoT’s Season 6.

SHOWS:

1. Game of Thrones (Season 6) – Rewind a bit; the year of 2015 left cliffhangers a plenty, but none was as big as “is Jon Snow really dead–like, seriously dead?”, because in a world of dragons, magic, and ice zombies–dead means D-E-A-D. Viewers and book fans alike were left with a sense of dread and in for the longest wait of their lives for season 6; but, little did they know how winning a season it would be. From the epic “Battle of the Bastards” to the Hound’s bloody vengeance to Ramsay Bolton getting his just deserts, this had to be the single most satisfying television I’ve witnessed–and the series isn’t even over yet! – 5/5
2. The Walking Dead (Season 7) – 4.5/5
3. Stranger Things (Season 1) – 4/5 /// Westworld (Season 1) 4/5 – “It begs to question, how depraved and animalistic are we to live our wildest, deepest, darkest, fantasies at the expense of autonomous beings in a world that we don’t deem as ‘real’? And, finally, how much is enough?”

Honorable mention: The Magicians (Season 1), The Expanse (Season 1), Channel Zero: Candle Cove (Season 1), Ash vs. Evil Dead (Season 2), Preacher (Season 1).

“ChestNUTS roasting on an open…”

SHOWS:

1. Daredevil (Season 2) – The one thing you want from a show is for it to get better with each season, and DDS2 just springs right out of the gate with its fantastic handling of the Punisher and Elektra, so much so that we’re getting a Punisher series next year. – 5/5
2. *TIE* Lucifer (Season 2) – 4.75/5 /// Supergirl (Season 2) – 4.75/5

“Divine” Derek VIgeant
@uncledarryl37

FLICKS:

1. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story – “Rogue One forces you to worry and care about this group, as opposed to the anticipation of the fun climatic battle in-the-end-where-the-heroes-win. And they got me in the fanboy heartstrings, but damn I’m good with it.” – 4.5/5 Bibles
2. Captain America: Civil War4/5
3. Deadpool4/5

Honorable mention: Doctor Strange, Arrival, Suicide Squad, Sausage Party, 10 Cloverfield Lane.

THE GEEEEK AWARDS [Best TV/Film of 2016]: Cape Fear.
No wonder his choice is so “Divine”.

SHOWS:

1. Westworld (Season 1) “This wonderfully creative show is loaded with a remarkable wealth of acting talent that, not only enriches the story, but has given us some of the best performances of 2016. The numerous layers of surprises and reveals gave it a magnificent tone that never let our minds relax on the complexity of where and how it was going to end.” – 4.75/5

THE GEEEEK AWARDS [Best TV/Film of 2016]: Cape Fear.
“Brother” Myke Ladonia @onemyke

FLICKS:

1. ArrivalSpeculative science fiction at its finest. It proves to the jaded that not every great alien movie has to be cynical and bleak and reiterate the same notions of ‘imperialist guilt’. This story easily ranks amongst the timeless tales of Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke, and Ray Bradbury. – 5/5
2. Green Room4.75/5
3. 10 Cloverfield Lane4.25/5

Honorable mention: Midnight Special, Captain America: Civil War, The Nice Guys, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Kubo and the Two Strings.

THE GEEEEK AWARDS [Best TV/Film of 2016]: Cape Fear.
The hype is REAL.

SHOWS:

1. Stranger Things (Season 1) – On paper, the Duffer brothers hit Netflix series should have just been written off on the worst form of nostalgia exploitation, even in a world where we get Star Wars movies every year. Yet because of some great characters, a fully-baked story, and a string of much needed trope subversions, Stranger Things has become just as iconic as the films it pays homage to. Luckily, most of the season’s plots were wrapped up, because with a first season this good a sophomore slump is inevitable. – 4.75/5
2. Westworld (Season 1) – 4.5/5
3. Atlanta (Season 1)- 4.5/5

Honorable mention: The Get Down (Season 0.5), Game of Thrones (Season 6), Daredevil (Season 2), Preacher (Season 1).

2. The Jungle Book – “Some of the most pleasant, eye-appealing CGI to date.” – 4.25/5
3. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (Ultimate Edition) – “While this flick has the absolute best Batman fight sequences ever, best suits ever, and, arguably, best Bruce Wayne ever in Ben Affleck, it’s Gal Gadot who goes from yesterday’s delicacy to BvS’s shining forearm guard. Flat out, Gal’s Diana Prince murders it.” – 4/5

Honorable mention: Captain America: Civil War, ArrivalStar Trek Beyond, ZootopiaDoctor Strange, X-Men: Apocalypse.

You DOUBT God hates geeks???
You DOUBT God hates geeks???

SHOWS:

1. Preacher (Season 1) – “While it hits many of the same beats as the hit comic from Garth Ennis, Seth Rogen & friends have made enough, proper changes to the differing medium. Above all else, Preacher is a ‘dream come true for GHG’ — it’s everything we ever talk about coming to life!” – 4.75/5
2. *TIE* Luke Cage (Season 1) – 4.5/5 /// Daredevil (Season 2) – 4.5/5
