Marvel Studios has never been one to shy away from a challenge and when they have had a misstep they are prone to learn from their mistakes. With that being said, Cloak and Dagger has premiered on Freeform to some very high praise.

Much like with The Inhumans or The Runaways, Cloak and Dagger is not a well -known property, so if you are going to a show that isn’t well known, you better not screw it up. While it is far too early to decide how Cloak and Dagger will do, the pilot was a convincing but slow start to the series.
Starting the series off between “now and then” scenes, we see Tandy “Dagger” Bowen (Olivia Holt) and Ty “Cloak” Johnson (Aubrey Joseph) getting their powers and where they are in their lives now – Ty is an all-star high school basketball player with a darkness rising in him and Tandy as a run-away that grifts in order to survive. The pilot, although, a slow start to the season, is bound to pick up as the season moves along, per Marvel’s tried and true formula (which, episode 2 and 3 do start to pick up). The pilot does its job of getting the hooks into the viewer and getting them invested. I would have to say that Cloak and Dagger falls alongside with The Runaways as a type of companion piece.
The acting, directing, and writing are all B+ (A+ would be something like Preacher or Game of Thrones), but B+ for a Freeform series is high praise. This should be a very fun series to hop on to. Aubrey Joseph and Olivia Holt as Cloak and Dagger, respectively, do a fantastic job. There is a lot of pain behind their eyes and it’s what drives the series and makes them convincing as their characters.
There has been talk between The Runaways and Cloak and Dagger actors about them wanting a crossover; which would be absolutely amazing (especially since that does happen in the comics). Marvel has learned from their Inhumans and Iron Fist series mistakes in getting a showrunner that won’t drive a series into the ground, and Joe Pokaski, from the hit Daredevil series, brings that same feel to this series. 4/5 Cloak and Daggerin’ Bibles.
