Crunchyroll had a bunch of announcements to make during its Anime Expo Lite industry panel yesterday, including more info on three new Crunchyroll Originals. Specific launch times will be announced later, but the next set of Originals you can look forward to include EX-ARM, TONIKAWA: Over the Moon for You, and So I’m a Spider, So What?
But before we take a closer look at the Crunchyroll Originals, here is a pair of recently announced anime that stood out to me most from the panel:
GIBIATE (July 15)
In 2030, Japan. A virus has infected humans throughout the world. Infected people turn into different forms of monsters based on their ages, sexes and races. The virus is named ‘Gibia’ – after being rich in variety like gibia.
Just then, a pair of samurai and ninja appeared in such a blighted wasteland of Japan. They both traveled from the early Edo period, fighting together with help from a doctor who tries to find cure for Gibia. Facing ceaseless attacks from Gibias, and outlaws that attack travelers for food, they start the dangerous journey with enemies all around.
Onyx Equinox (Summer 2020)
EX-ARM (TBA)
In the year 2014, a high school student who hates machines, Akira Natsume, wants to change himself for the better and tries to take the first step in doing that… But then he gets run over by a truck. Fast forward to 2030. A police officer named Minami Uezono and her partner, the android Alma, infiltrate the scene of a trade going on at Tokyo Harbor for an unknown weapon named “EX-ARM.” They are then attacked by an enemy armed with the “EX-ARM” No.08. Put in this life or death situation, they decide to activate the “EX-ARM” No.00 that they stole from the enemy, and…
TONIKAWA: Over the Moon for You (October 2020)
The married life comedy by “Hayate the Combat Butler” author Kenjiro Hata finally gets an anime adaptation! Nasa Yuzaki falls in love at first sight after an encounter with the mysterious Tsukasa. When Nasa earnestly confesses his feelings, she replies, “I’ll date you, but only if we’re married.” Nasa and Tsukasa’s cute and precious newlywed life of love is about to begin!
So I’m a Spider, So What? (January 2021)
I, the protagonist, was just an ordinary high school girl, but suddenly I was reincarnated as a spider monster in a fantasy world. Not only that, but I awakened in a dungeon filled with vicious monsters. Armed with only my human knowledge and my overwhelming positivity, I’m forced to use spiderwebs and traps to defeat far stronger monsters just to stay alive… So begins the labyrinth survival story of a girl with incredible mental strength living as one of the lowest-ranked beasts!
In addition to the new Crunchyroll Originals, a bunch of new additions were also announced. Shows on their way to Crunchyroll include The Hidden Dungeon Only I Can Enter, How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord Ω, Monster Girl Doctor, With a Dog AND a Cat, Every Day is Fun, and a pair of new That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime OADs.
Here’s what we know so far:
That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime OAD #4 and #5 (OAD #4 July 8, OAD #5 this November)
Rimuru, now a teacher at the Freedom Academy in the Kingdom of Ingrassia, has become involved in the school’s outdoor training event with his class. The outdoor training event is an annual competition in which the students of each class guard the teachers on a journey to a nearby town. Rimuru is assigned to Class A, while his own students in Class S escort the young Tiss-sensei. All the students are eager to show how much their daily training has paid off, but the situation turns around when they’re attacked by thieves! This is part 2 of the brand new episode created by the original author, Fuse-sensei, just for this OAD release!
The Hidden Dungeon Only I Can Enter
The Hidden Dungeon is a place of legend where rare treasures and items are hidden. Nor, the third son of an impoverished noble family who’s lost the one job offer he had, was lucky enough to hear about this dungeon. He then acquires a skill that allows him to create, bestow, and edit skills… and in order to use it, he needs to accumulate points by carrying out such tasks as eating delicious meals and doing sexual things with alluring members of the opposite sex.
How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord Ω (Season 2, 2021)
Sakamoto Takuma was so strong in the MMORPG Cross Reverie that his fellow players came to call him the “demon lord.” One day, he gets summoned to another world in his avatar form, and meets two girls who both insist that they’re the one who summoned him. They cast a spell used to enslave summoned beasts on him, but that activates his unique ability, Magic Reflect, and the girls end up being the ones put under the spell! And thus begins the otherworldly adventure of a demon lord (pretend) who blazes his own trail through overwhelming power.
Monster Girl Doctor (Summer 2020)
Here in the town of Lindworm, where humans and monsters coexist, a new young doctor, Glenn, begins another day of perilous medical exams! Whether he’s examining deep inside a mermaid’s gills, stitching up a flesh golem’s thigh, assisting a harpy in laying her eggs, or palpating every last scale on a dragon, Glenn is just doing his best to help these girls whose appearances and bodies are all so completely different… so why does he always end up in such precarious positions with his patients? It’s all good, though, because it’s strictly for medical purposes! He may come close to suffocating from the pressure of his lamia assistant Saphentite’s tail coiling around him, but still, the clinic is open for business in this medical fantasy that explores the physiologies of monster girls as never before!
With a Dog AND a Cat, Every Day is Fun (October 2020)
A hard-working way-too-cute dog and a scary-faced but lovable cat. Living with them makes every day fun. Their owner’s days are filled with laughter and sentiment. Are you a cat-lover? A dog-lover? Or both? This anime is a present for the people out there who love both dogs and cats so much they can’t choose.
