MADDEN NFL 18 (EA Tiburon/EA Sports – PS4, Xbox One, PC – August 25, 2017) – It’s almost that time of year again — another year, another Madden NFL game — and, now, look who’s on the cover: the player being called the G.O.A.T., Tom Brady. This is the first time that 2 players from the same team will grace the Madden cover in back-to-back years; but, can Tom Terrific break the “Madden Curse”? After seeing what happened to Gronk last season, maybe I should throw those quotations away. Onto the important stuff, though. EA Sports promises a new mode for Madden that the pub is keeping under wraps until their press conference on June 10th. But we do know that the Play Now Mode will feature up-to-date stats and rosters from NFL.com, and players can “keep it true” all the way to the Super Bowl.

There are three different playstyles that will cater to each match-up to your liking: Arcade/Simulation/Competitive. Target Passing is a new feature that (should) work exactly as it sounds–inspired, of course, from the coverboy himself; and new Coach Adjustments will allow Madden heads to customize the AI to fit their gameplan. While Ultimate Team and Franchise Mode are back, let’s hope more depth is added to the already outstanding commentary from Madden 17. In-game highlights from around The L, please? I also do hope that defense is fixed from the previous incarnation, with man-to-man coverage breaking down at Sproles-like speed, and, what was up with the lone defender freezing on the deep ball? Tipped balls occured too often, and certain zone coverages were happening at a rapid pace. Aside from that, Madden NFL 17 was a great game and we can only hope this year continues that trend–rivetting new Story Mode, or not.

EA Play takes place at The Hollywood Paladium from June 10-12, and will be showing live on EA.com.
