STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT II (EA DICE/Electronic Arts – PS4, Xbox One, PC – November 17, 2017) – You don’t know the power of the darkside, but you will come November 17th of this year! Battlefront 2 has been announced and details revealed, and it looks to continue building on the first release in the reboot/remake of the classic Star Wars title that puts us in the boots of the every day troopers and soldiers. While the first one wasn’t well received for its lack of campaign–and some criticism of its multiplayer gameplay–DICE is proving they are listening to the fans and are ready to deliver the goods.

This Stormtrooper was on site at Star Wars Celebration in full armor to get all the details, and even more has been leaked since. Not only are we going to get a full campaign, but it is also one from the proper side: the Empire’s POV. And not just any trooper, but a Special Forces group known as Inferno Squad led by Commander Iden Versio. We don’t know the full story of course, but what we do know is that her Squad is set to protect the Empire and its operations following the destruction of the second Death Star in Return of the Jedi (4 ABY for my fellow Star Wars nerds). And while no specific end point was given, we were told that it will span 30-years to around the time of the destruction of Starkiller Base during The Force Awakens (34 ABY).

And while the story is a massive addition to the game, and one sure to win over fans that were let down from the first one in 2015, the multiplayer is also seeing some welcome changes. A lot will return for the sequel, but also some changes such as the ability to further customize your character, loadout, and even tweak your weapons. Think closer to Battlefield 1 in terms of multiplayer gameplay and feel.

There are some changes, however, that some may not be happy to see. One of those is a balance in Hero/Villain strength in that their power will be toned down a bit. It won’t be a massive change, but one that will leave troopers feeling a bit more useful and less of just being cannonfodder during run-ins with the Heroes/Villains. We won’t have to wait long to see more on this exciting title, as EA will be showing a gameplay preview during their E3 press conference on June 10th.

EA Play takes place at The Hollywood Paladium from June 10-12, and will be showing live on EA.com.
