20TH CENTURY FOX (Thursday – Hall H) – “I like to get a little weird,” says actor Channing Tatum, with a current look that’s channeling a buff mix between WWE Superstars Randy Orton and John Cena. With no sign of Deadpool 2, Dark Phoenix or New Mutants in sight, thankfully for a calmer-than-usual Hall H attendance Thursday morning, the Kingman 2 panel made the weirdness of attending an X-Menless Fox panel, oh, only just super awesome.
Attendees were greeted with swag right away, a burnt orange tux T with a pin. Weirder, the former X-Men film Storm, Halle Berry, downed an entire pint of Bourbon, courtesy of her co-star. “Just have Halle answer from now on,” retorted Tatum during a silly audience Q&A inquiry on the film’s length. Berry, to say the least, looked.. fuckedd upp. Lucky us! The footage we saw today — 3 clips in all — was great. The first depicted a wild London car chase between Eggsy (Taron Egerton) and a superdroid, former Kingsman recruit. It was hyper-stylized, quippy and totallly Matthew Vaughn. Gambit himself got to ham it up with Egerton and Mark “Sinestro” Strong in the second clip, which showcased a Kingman v Statesman battle in a liquor barrel distillery.
Throughout the panel, Kingman comic artist, Dave Gibbons (to whom Mark Millar served as writer) sketched up a free commission to the winner of the best Q&A. While the ever-charming Colin Firth was on hand to joke about not actually being there, leave it to “The Dude” Jeff Bridges to kill it with the finest one-liner of the hour; how to pronounce the word “lasso” (stemming from a debate between the Americans and the Brits during the shoot). “We call it a rope.” The final clip also showed off Julianne Moore’s devilish, mech-commanding queen, Poppy, and make sure you arrive to the theater on an empty stomach. Weird up, yo. 4.25/5 Bibles.
20th Century Fox’s Kingsman: The Golden Circle arrives in theaters on September 22.
