Tom Hardy is playing a villain once again. Having played Bane in the underrated Dark Knight Rises , Hardy now sets his sights on the Marvel Universe. He’s been cast in the upcoming Venom movie as Eddie Brock, otherwise known as the villainous Venom. Besides this piece of casting news, The Hollywood Reporter also revealed that the film is being helmed by Ruben Fleischer. There’s some promise there since Fleischer directed the enjoyable Zombieland. However, it’s being written by Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner, who write the abysmal Amazing Spider-Man 2. Venom is slated to be released Oct. 5, 2018.
Sony tweeted an appropriately ominous black and white picture of Hardy wearing a Venom shirt. Because it’s being released by Sony, Venom is reportedly not going to tie into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That also means it won’t affect the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming film starring Tom Holland. So even if Venom ends up being a stinker, it won’t infect Spider-Man’s world. – Keith Justin Dooley
