WWE SMACKDOWN LIVE! [Ringside Apostle Review]: The Z-Man Cometh.

Ryan "Grimm" Davis
Ryan “Grimm” Davis @OGMrGrimm

The newly rechristened WWE Smackdown Live! kicked off with the “hot sauce” last week. They showcased the new era talents, many coming from NXT. We were informed of a couple of surprise returns. There were fresh segments and new camera angles. They even gave us an unpredictable main event finish, which named Dolph Ziggler the new #1 Contender to Dean Ambrose‘s WWE World Heavyweight Title. The end of this show left everyone wondering, can Ziggler still hang in the main event scene?

This week’s show looked to answer that question with Dolph being the clear focus of the night. He delivers a great promo in a segment with the champ, and, in the main event, he puts his #1 Contender status on the line in a successful defense against Bray Wyatt. Superkick! Not to be outdone, AJ Styles and John Cena have a strong back-and-forth, with Styles lobbing a particularly salty insult on the Nashville audience. This sets up their tie-breaker match for WWE SummerSlam on August 21st.

Looming over the event’s proceedings was the impending retaliation by WWE 2K17 coverboy –to which you can view Moody’s first Roster Reveal here— “The Beast Incarnate” Brock Lesnar for “The Legend Killer” Randy Orton‘s RKO “Outta Nowhere” on WWE RAW. It came in the form of a thunderous F5 Tuesday night in the middle of Orton’s match with Fannndannnnngooooo.

Match of the night? A toss-up between the main event and NXT strongholds, the new Steiner Bros., American Alpha vs. those pesky, but not-so-nifty anymore Vaudevillains. New Smackdown colorman David Otunga must’ve been ready, willing and Gable to meet these dudes for brews later, because he was all over their shit. And justiably so.

Overall, a solid second showing for #SDLive— with the drawback being for a product known as the “wrestling” show there wasn’t that many actual matches (4).

Thangs done changed.

GHG Presents… RINGSIDE APOSTLES [S02, E00 Podcast]: Let’s Ce’ What’s NXT.

You didn’t think we’d just go away like that now, did ya?

Well… while the RINGSIDE APOSTLES are not officially “back” per se — that comes next month with SummerSlam — we decided to get Kenny Sanders in the building for a very special #0 episode to preview our second season.

You know it’s been a minute…

Not only does our “Saint Superkick” help the “Monsignor” Travis Moody break down the goods from last night’s PPV, WWE Battleground 2015, but he also lends his thoughts on San Diego Comic-Con (from the outside looking in, ya dig) and, obviously, predictions for ‘Slam.

It’s one of our swiftest episodes yet, so give us a quick listen before WWE RAW hits waves tonight!

RINGSIDE APOSTLES [WrestleMania XXXI Podcast]: “Suplex City, Bitch!”

Let’s get this out of the way real fast: WrestleMania XXXI (a.k.a. WrestleMania 31) lived up to the hype. If you watched the “grand-daddy of them all” this past Sunday, then you witnessed just about every living legend in the history of wrestling make an appearance. Now, did all of this constitute into a combination of great entertainment and good wrestling?

That’s what we’re here to debate.

Yes. The Ringside Apostles are back! Newer and fresher than ever, we’ve got a new member on our side– and, whaddya know, it’s a female. Our very first gal to call herself a “Ringside Apostle” is none other than Shy Janine, our “Padress”. She joins the trusty “Monsignor” Travis Moody, “Saint SuperKick” Kenny Sanders (via Satellite), the always vibrant Bri “Bella”, and your host with the most, “Bishop” Richard Zom.

Sorry, Padre, we had to do it.

In this episode, not only do we go over all the action at Levi Stadium, we also debate the cost of shows, the impact spectacle has over actual wrestling, the NXT push, the “legend” factor, and more. Yes! Yes! Yes!

RINGSIDE APOSTLES [Podcast]: ‘Reign’ing in on the Royal Rumble!

So, it took the RAW after the RAW after the PPV (do we still even call those big monthly wrestling events that anymore?) to apologize for the travesty that was the Royal Rumble main event.

Leave it up to our Ringside Apostles, “The Bishop” Richard Zom and “Saint SuperKick” Kenny Sanders to lay the smacketh down on the WWE’s rootie pooh candy asses. Also, since our Apostles weren’t able to join us for our otherwordly. ungodly Best of 2014 Video Games Show, the Legion of Doom give their picks for best video games of last year and beyond.

RINGSIDE APOSTLES [Hell In A Cell / WWE 2K15 Preview]: Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner?

June 30th.

June 30th was the last time the Ringside Apostles blessed you with a show. We began development for GHGtv around that time, hired some new members, lost a couple in the process, then…

GOT THE BAND BACK TOGETHER for one HELL of a special night, baby!

When Comic Book characters come to life.
When Comic Book characters come to life.

Hell in a Cell gave us a reason to party. Yup– we know some of you wrestling heads out there were disappointed with Sunday night’s show, but it may very well have been the best NINE-NINEDEE NINE PPV this congregation had witnessed in a while.

Thankfully, our Special Return Show offers a lot more than just our thoughts on the PPV, as we dive into the statuses of CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, Roman Reigns; the future of Randy Orton, John Cena, Seth Rollins, and next year’s Wrestlemania; and we give our in-depth analysis on both editions of WWE 2K15 — last-gen (360, PS3) out TODAY, current-gen (X1, PS4) out in 3 weeks.

So, why not give us a listen? Our host “Bishop” Richard Zom, the “Monsignor” Travis Moody, the one and only “Padre” Guy Copes, and — YES! — the return of the “Saint SuperKick” Kenny Sanders (don’t take my picture, fool!) join each other for the FIRST TIME EVER.

We’ll be back in one month for Survivor Series & the release of WWE 2K15 on next-gen consoles. Thanks for listening!
